“Simply Michelle”
Colored pencils

As the artist of my self-portrait I not only want the audience to appreciate my work, but I want the to get a sense of the person I am. In a way everything you see in my drawing signifies something about me. I consider myself to e a shy person, I feel I get that across by the way my face is put to the side of the paper and my facial expression shows a light smile. I tend to smile at people to tell them “hi,” but I don’t smile much because I am scared people will not return a smile.

The colors I chose to make my drawing come to life are just plain colors that I see everyday. I decided to color my shirt pink and my headband the color pink because it is something that I own and use to dress myself. I chose to color the background of the paper blue because it is the favorite color of someone special to me and he has been part of my life for a long time. One of the hearts is for the love my parents have for me ever since I was born and the other one is for my friends who have always been there for me when I needed them the most.

My purpose was to make the piece as creative and simple as possible by using very few materials to get across how I really am a simple person not someone who likes to show off. I used colored pencils to create my image; I didn’t want to use materials that were messy. This way it can help me express to people the simple girl I am, a girl with a good heart. This is how I chose to represent myself and I hope people are able to see the resemblance when they look at me from my drawing as well as in person.
